Killing Time

about

Original music and lyrics by Glen Clark

This song consists of just 6 verses (no choruses or bridge).

It's another dark theme, that's for sure. My original concept for this song was simply about a man digging a hole in the ground. I then built a story around that imagery and why he would be doing that.

The resulting story tells of a man who saves a woman from her abusive partner but in the process of doing so ends up killing him. He then decides to bury the body and make up an alibi. Do they live happily ever after?
I won't spoil the ending ; )

The basis of the sonic signature for this song revolves around the sound of a shovel digging into earth.
I recorded my self digging late one night - heaven knows what the neighbours thought.

The shovel sound then became my hi-hat. I added a simple kick drum and that became my basic beat.

Guitar-wise there are two 6 string acoustics panned left and right.

There is also a 12 string guitar to which I added the Tape Cassette 2 plugin. It added a strained warbling drone sound which I quite liked.

A bass guitar comes in mid way through and my Telecaster is using one of the experimental amp sim presets to provide some ambience.

The remaining tracks are a few bits of filler percussion and some 'argument' sound effects during the instrumental (again, the neighbours must have been wondering what was going on Lol).

Fully recorded, mixed and mastered in GarageBand on MacOS.
